Hanna gives up her big dream of competitive swimming in the GDR and flees with her best friend Andreas, who has come under the scrutiny of the state authorities, across the Baltic Sea in the summer of 1989. Fifty kilometers of water separate them from freedom. And only a thin, connecting cord around their wrists saves them from absolute loneliness.
