FIELD- & SOUNDEFFECT RECORDING

"Wild soundscapes provide countless detailed information. It may be true that a picture is worth a thousand words, but it is also true that a natural soundscape speaks more than a thousand pictures."
Bernie Krause, 2013

An essential aspect of field recording is focusing on the details. In my recordings, I pay attention to the small nuances of the soundscape, the unexpected sounds, the interactions between noises from different sound sources, and the atmospheric mood created by the environment. This creates an immersive experience that allows the listener to dive into the sound world and perceive details that are often overlooked in everyday life.
I already recorded our environment by using various recording practices and capturing different sound effects. As part of my thesis at the Academy for Film and Television Baden-Württemberg, I focused on multichannel audio recording techniques and their sound aesthetics in cinema.
I use all these recordings as a sound designer in my projects and offer them for sale.

IMMERSIVE SOUNDSCAPES - Multichannel Fieldrecording

In my diploma thesis at the Academy for Film and Television Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg, I explored various 2D and 3D recording systems in field recording. My goal was to apply proven multichannel audio recording techniques in field recording and compare them in terms of sound aesthetics and spatiality in cinema. Systems such as the ORTF3D, OCT3D, Fukada Tree, INA5, IRT Cross, and others were used. My thesis also addresses the handling of three-dimensional audio recordings in documentary films and their processing in post-production. The ideas for this work are based on literature by Bernie Krause and Murray Schafer. The recordings were made at various locations, such as birdhouses in zoos, the Black Forest, different public spaces, and a church. I am happy to make the work and recordings available upon request.

SOUND LIBRARIES

As part of the documentary film production Yumi – The whole World five unique sound libraries were created, recorded with the ORTF3D microphone system by Schoeps. These, along with other sound libraries, are edited by me and named according to the Universal Category System and available for sale on asoundeffect .

3D Pacific Tropical Island

In times of global change it’s nearly impossible to hear places without human sounds. The majestic and old rainforests on the tropical south pacific islands creates an amazing soundscape. We recorded these soundscapes with a variety of organic sounds like exotic birds and animals, light and heavy tropical rain, wind blowing through trees and calm rivers and waterfalls. We also covered day and night moods. Our microphone setup is the amazing immersive Schoeps ORTF3D System powered by the precise preamps of the Sonosax R4+ and AD8+. These Systems allow us to record the incredible soundscapes of the south pacific rainforests in the most iconic way.

The Library include sounds like

AMBIENCE, TROPICAL, WATER, RAINFOREST, RAIN, EXOTIC, ANIMALS, BIRDS, INSECTS, WIND, VEGETATION, VOLCANO, RIVER

3D Pacific Volcano Eruptions

The sound of a volcano is an awe-inspiring symphony of raw power and untamed energy. It is a cacophony that reverberates through the air, leaving an indelible mark on anyone fortunate enough to witness it. As the molten rock churns and rises within the depths of the Earth, a rumbling bass begins to emerge, like the distant growl of a slumbering giant. We recorded the Yasur Volcano on Tanna island with the amazing immersive Schoeps ORTF3D microphone system powered by the precise preamps of the Sonosax R4+ and AD8+.

The Library include sounds like

VOLCANO, ERUPTIONS, EXPLOSIONS, CRISP, MUFFLED, CLOSE, DISTANT, WIND, PLAIN

3D Pacific Island Waves

Waves are one of the most powerful elements that mother nature provides. Especially the rough pacific ocean with all its mighty waves which were rolling on the beaches and shorelines of islands like Taveuni in Fiji, or Tanna in Vanuatu. We recorded these waves in all their different sizes. From huge roaring waves to detailed lapping splashes. To get a nice image of the rolling waves we used the amazing Schoeps ORTF3D recording system powered by the precise preamps of the Sonosax R4+ and AD8+.

The Library include sounds like

WATER, WAVES, SHORELINE, COAST, SURF, BEACH, OCEAN ROAR

3D Pacific Island Winds

The power of wind becomes clear when you feel the gusts and breezes on your skin. In combination with another incredibly natural disaster like an eruption of a volcano it seems like a dystopian world. We recorded pacific winds, gusts and breezes on a huge plain at the foot of the Yasur Volcano on Tanna Island. Some recordings include loud eruptions of the volcano. The feeling of wind blowing around our ears is created by our amazing immersive Schoeps ORTF3D recording system powered by the precise preamps of the Sonosax R4+ and AD8+.

The Library include sounds like

WIND, GUST, BREEZE, VEGETATION, TONAL, PLAIN, VOLCANO

3D Climate Change Protest

Nowadays a lot of protests against global climate change all over the world are happening. With our amazing immersive Schoeps ORTF3D recording system, we recorded some protests during the UN climate conference (COP26) in Glasgow 2022. You can hear people cheering and screaming, helicopters flying around, rhythmic drums playing and crowds shouting political lines against climate change.

The Library include sounds like

PROTEST, CROWD, CLIMATE CHANGE, CHEERING, DRUMS, HELICOPTER
